Liberty Village

One of the few modern, purpose-built communities in Toronto, Liberty Village shares much in common with the Distillery District. Liberty Village Toronto has become synonymous with Toronto condos but one of our favourite authentic lofts in the city is located here–the Toy Factory Lofts–along with a great soft loft option, the Liberty Market Lofts.

Formerly an industrial area, this 45-acre, master-planned community has undergone a massive transformation over the last decade and continues to grow with more new build condos. Former warehouses and factories have largely been converted into commercial and office spaces and virtually every amenity possible is clustered together, given credence to its moniker of “village”.

This is a great neighourhood for young professionals who want the conveniences of a small town, i.e. everything at your doorstep, within a short commute of downtown. Affordability is also a big draw for young buyers looking for a stylish first or second property that doesn’t break the bank.

The area is fairly homogenous however–largely young, childless professionals in their twenties and early thirties–and clearly a planned condo community but the industrial, historic architecture and character-filled streetscapes keep it from feeling utilitarian. It’s also a burgeoning media mecca for Toronto with a high concentration of media, marketing and digital agencies.

Liberty Village runs between Dufferin and Strachan (the east side bordering Niagara), with King West and the Gardiner defining its north-south perimeters. It’s just a short stroll to the Toronto waterfront trails and both streetcar and bus options for TTC users.

Liberty Village Lofts

Liberty Village Toronto is known for some of the most affordable condos in the city relative to the style, quality and amenities you’re getting but there are also a few great Toronto lofts located here as well.

Our favourite is the Toy Factory Lofts. The only authentic residential loft conversion in the neighbourhood, this also happens to be one of the best run condos in Toronto with low maintenance fees well-below the city’s average along with stellar amenities, a rarity in a hard loft. But it’s the beauty of the interiors that will win you over.

Annual value appreciations have been very strong in the Toy Factory Lofts and with the upcoming addition of seven-figure luxury residential suites on an existing, under-utilized floor, units here are a solid real estate investment.

Buyers interested in Liberty Village lofts should also check out the Liberty Market Lofts. This new soft loft has soaring 17 foot ceilings, mezzanine level bedrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows that make even the smallest units feel much larger than they are.
